Bandar Seri Begawan – Set sail on a voyage with Dream Charter, which offers an unforgettable experience on the 11-metre luxury yacht, Petima.
The six-month anniversary of the tour yacht’s operation in Brunei waters was marked recently.
Present at the ceremony was Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources; Sheikh Jamaluddin, the Brunei tourism chief and other distinguished guests.
After witnessing the simple ceremony at the Bunga wharf in Kota Batu, the guests were sailed away on a brief tour along the fascinating mangrove lined waters of the Brunei River estuary.
The idea to set sail a leisure charter operation in Brunei was first inspired during yachting sports meet in Labuan, known as the Borneo International Yachting Challenge. There, a local Bruneian, Awang Bohari bin Abdullah, 42, and a foreign couple, Peter Moeller, 58, a German and an Irish woman, Aideen Henry, came to know each other.
“We first met at the international boating challenge in Labuan last October and we became inspired by each others enthusiasm,” said Aideen.
Peter and Aideen had the Petima, a 15-tonne, 11-metre luxury boat, which Peter bought from a Danish yachtsman.
Awang Bohari had the interest and knowledge of local conditions. All three had boundless energy and vision. Since then, they have provided sailing tours to places such as Labuan and Limbang. Their sunset cruises and honeymoon cruises are becoming more popular. The day sailing and even business meetings are proving to be a famous choice.
Dream Charter is supported vigorously by the Brunei Tourism Industry programme, Kenali Negara Kita (KNK) and has been ranked one of the top ten best ‘must do in Brunei’ activities by expatriates and locals.
Since the response from public members has been good, another yacht will be operational in October.
There have been monthly promotions available and last month, the sunset cruise which brings passengers to watch the scenery of the sunset while enjoying snacks and beverages, was a winner. In addition, passengers were given free T-shirts featured with the slogan “Sail Away with Petima”.
Petima can accommodate up to fifteen passengers and an ample space on the deck for a view of the islands and the open sea.
The well maintained, hard wood 25-year old has proved its reliability by crossing the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and has operated extensively in the tropics.
“There is no reason to doubt the endurance of the yacht even though much of it is made of hard wood,” said Aideen.
Dream Charter brochures are mainly marketed through hotels, cafes and on the Internet where response has been great,” said Awang Bohari. ~ Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
